Springfield, Enon and out in the Country (June 29, 2020)

It has been a big change living more in the country. I always lived in cities but since getting married we are living out at the lake. It is real nice and there is a great variety of animals out there. Bunnies are a real treat for me, enjoy watching them and seems as time goes by they even get used to me. I rode out a bit today on the motorcycle. Stopped by a creek on this early Monday morning, saw this postcard painted on a wall in Springfield, and some cows out in the country at Enon.
I have some more photos from the adventures today on my Racing with the Wind page. It was a very good ride on an early morning. Expecting heat and humidity to be on the rise today, went out to beat that, and did so today.

St Mary's Lake and surrounding area (June 24, 2020)

Amazing adventure in St. Mary, Ohio. Visited the Grand Lake there, and grand it was. One of the biggest inland lakes I have seen (well, so far anyhow). Exploring around the lake visited some interesting places including St. Mary itself, Sidney, and Celina. Getting there from the house we (went with my wife Debbie in the Civic) went down 235 and via 29. Farms and fields. Watching the Great Blue Heron fish was a real plus. We also visited a historic area in St. Mary which included some cannon, and the site of the old Canal system. That is a replica canal boat below. It was a remarkable day in Ohio!

Fathers Day 2020 (June 21, 2020)

On this hot and humid Father's Day took a motorcycle ride on the Triumph to Riverscape. Was not the plan but it was where I turned up. I have some more photos on my Racing with the Wind blog page from the ride today. I took a few photos to put here, couple of the historical markers in front of the Engineers Club (which can be seen below), and the river. Glad to see today that the fountains are running and always fun to check those out. Being Sunday morning it was very quiet at the park but there were a few people there. Thanks for visiting my page and hope to see you back again soon.

Summer: Day 1 (June 20, 2020)

First day of Summer and got up early to get out before the heat builds up. It will feel like summer with temperatures in the 90's today and humidity to match. It was fun to be out through, as there were a number of motorcycles also out with the same idea. Went into Fairborn, that is where I got the photo of the C-17's directly below. I also stopped at Lefty's there for the first time for breakfast and a cup of coffee. I highly recommend this place, it was very good.
Rode down the road toward Enon and kept going not that its not an interesting town, it is, but just to do some exploring. Came across the "Pennsylvania House". Interesting place with a cool history. I have the historical marker and the house photographed. I have information also in another photo about US 40. Rode a good part of that yesterday, its a favorite road here for me.
At left is inside Lefty's (mentioned above) then below is a couple of photos of Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield. Very big and interesting with a neat Veterans section. They also have some monuments of sort about former wars, that is the top photo above.
The ride was a lot of fun, always nice to explore new things and see new sights. I also visited Wittenberg College. Very interesting old school dating to 1845. More photos can be seen on my Racing with the Wind page.

Riding The National Road. (June 19, 2020)

Summer officially starts tomorrow, but got in one last Spring ride this morning. Took this photo at my first stop on The National Road, AKA "40". One the nation's oldest highways and an interesting ride. Rode out just outside of New Carlisle and made this stop at the Dayton International Airport. Really sad there, as during both legs of the trip saw zero planes take to the sky. In fact found today that the Dayton Air Show was also cancelled when I got back home.
Rode out quite a way some 40 miles down the highway. Stopped for fuel and a drink (coffee) at a Marathon gas station before heading back the way I came. Stopped at Taylorsville Dam where I got the photo of the motorcycle and the sign, and one of the old dam.
From there rode back to my house in a ride that took with stops some two and a half hours and a total of 79 miles. It was a good day to get out though later in the day it did get a lot warmer and the humidity is way up.
It has been a beautiful Spring to get some rides in and I have certainly gotten some really good ones in. Can't wait to see what Summer brings me. More photos on my Racing with the Wind blog page.

9-11 Memorial and Young's Dairy (June 15, 2020)

Interesting ride today, as noted in the previous post 20 miles into the ride reached the 10,000 mile mark on my Triumph Speedmaster. Its been 10,000 trouble free miles and looking forward to the next 10,000. I was looking over some destinations tomorrow. Planning to get food with my wife at City Barbeque (directly below) and then will be eating at Beavercreek Station. That is the site of the 9-11 Memorial which is seen at the left. Haunting place and a nice tribute to that terrible day.
Last four photos I took at Young's Dairy. Got me off the highway and onto some great backroads. I really enjoy riding past farms and fields. Young's Dairy has some neat areas to explore plus some good (but not yet open when I got there) restaurants. They also also noted for their amazing ice cream which is homemade and comes from milk from the cows on site. Some of them can be seen below.
In fact the last four photos are of Young's Dairy. I enjoy seeing animals and they have some really nice ones. You can also give some of them some snacks which is really fun.
All in all a really good motorcycle ride to a couple of interesting places which made for a very fine Monday in Ohio.

Riding to 10,000 (June 12, 2020)

Today rode to Urbana, Ohio, actually Grimes Field which is a very cool old airport. From the sign I saw it was opened in the 1940's. This helicopter is a medical helicopter which I have seen flying over the house before. Nice to see them getting it ready to fly. Not a real lot of things going on there but they are getting things up and open again after being closed for the Pandemic. Still a lot of social distancing which is good.

Urbana is a very cool old town with a lot of neat things to see. I have a number of photos from the ride today both at left and below. There is an aviation museum there, one of the planes can be seen below,, but it does not open for a little while yet. They are doing some things to get it ready to open soon.
I have more photos at my "Racing with the Wind" page. Enjoyed this very nice day and closing in on that first 10,000 miles with 19 to go to that number.

Eldean Covered Bridge, Piqua, Ohio (June 8, 2020)

Rolled toward Piqua, Ohio this fine day and visited the Eldean Covered Bridge there. Interesting thing to see though I did visit this a couple of years ago on a previous ride to the area.
I got another photo of the bridge below as well as one of the historic marker sign with information on the bridge below.
This was part of a motorcycle ride taken today to the area. I have a few more photos from the days adventures on my Racing with the Wind blog page.

Tipp City and the New Carlisle Airport (June 7, 2020)

This was actually a project, got the motorcycle washed off (finished the job after the ride) but took it out to blow some of the water out of the "nooks and crannies" , plus (let's be honest here) it was a wonderful day. Temperature was down from yesterday and humidity was wayyyy lower. It is also nice to get out on a Sunday morning as people are either in church (which is a good thing) or sleeping in.
Took the motorcycle to Tipp City rolling down Highway 571. Canal Lock Park is cool, with a lock boat and part of the old lock system there. It is a stop I like to make from time to time.
On the way back down 571 stopped at the New Carlisle Airport where I got the two photos below. That is also a place I enjoy visiting and usually see some planes flying on a Sunday. As noted it was a wonderful day. I also have some more photos on my motorcycle page "Racing with the Wind" from this ride.

Early Saturday D-Day Memorial Ride (June 6, 2020)

Early morning photo above before the motorcycle ride today. I like the dawn and good to get out early with the heat building up today. Got more photos on my Racing with the Wind page, but visited for the first time Cedarville. Saw the opera house there (which dates to the 1800's) and the unusual tomb in the local cemetery. Stumbled across Clifton Mill which is amazing to see at Christmastime. It was a wonderful 65 mile ride. Got going early today as expecting some serious heat and humidity.
Fun to see some new places and cover some new roads. I also visited Xenia and Springfield again. While in Springfield got a nice complement on my motorcycle. Nice, though can't take any credit but do appreciate the machine and certainly enjoy riding it.
Covered some 65 miles today with a few more miles on the morning walk. Day is off to a remarkable start.
This being June 6, it is the anniversary of D-Day, when the Allies landed on the beaches of France to liberate the world from the clutches of the Nazi monsters. My grandfather was part of the American forces that took part in that, many years ago.

Christmas Lights at Rising Sun Casino (November 22-25, 2024)

Wonderful time at Rising Sun, Indiana where Christmas is in full color. Live reindeer, carriage rides, animated displays, beautiful outdoo...
