Carillon Historical Park, Dayton, Ohio (July 13, 2020)

Debbie and me visited the Carillon Historical Park, which is a favorite place of ours. It is also a remarkable place to visit and we have a great time. A wondertime time to visit is during the Christmas holiday when the park is all decorated.
A favorite thing to see is the Wright Flyer III which is considered a vast improvement over the first Wright Flyer which flew at Kitty Hawk, NC. This plane is one of the most complete of the Wright aircraft on display with the most original parts.
I have a number of items below with descriptions. These are just a few of what can be seen at the park.
Wright Test Engine

Sewing Machine used at Kitty Hawk to put fabric on the wings of the Wright Flyer.

Oldest building in Dayton, Ohio

Camera which took the first flight photo at Kitty Hawk, NC

Another visit to the National Museum of the United States Air Force (July 6, 2020)

The opportunity again arose, and once again visited the Air Force Museum. I have been on a few motorcycle rides also during this period, those you can explore on my "Racing with the Wind" page. Here you see the X-29 research aircraft to the left. Below that a Moon rock! Third photo is an F-117 Stealth fighter. Mig-15 below that, was flown to South Korea from the North during the Korean War. A Wright Flyer Model B below that and then a WW1 SE5a fighter. The blue plane is a 1930's era Martin B-10 and finally an autogyro at the bottom. As always had a fantastic time at the museum!!

Return to the United States Air Force Museum (July 2, 2020)

After its been closed for some 100 + days due to the virus, the United States Air Force Museum has reopened. Masks are required but I find that a non-issue and put mine on to visit the amazing aircraft and people to be found at what may be the best aviation museum in the world. At left is a former Air Force One. This was made famous during the Presidency of JFK.
At left is a B2 Stealth Bomber, one of only a few flown by the United States. The museum has an amazing collection of aircraft and spacecraft. Directly below is Apollo 15 along with other space items. Below that a Mig-29 which is a Russian design. Below that is a B-52 cockpit. A blue WW2 era PBY Catalina is below that. Below the PBY is a WW2 German V-2 rocket.
This is a small number of the amazing aircraft to be seen here. I have been many times in the past and will be returning many times again in the future. One of the coolest things to visit here in the Dayton, Ohio area.

Springfield, Enon and out in the Country (June 29, 2020)

It has been a big change living more in the country. I always lived in cities but since getting married we are living out at the lake. It is real nice and there is a great variety of animals out there. Bunnies are a real treat for me, enjoy watching them and seems as time goes by they even get used to me. I rode out a bit today on the motorcycle. Stopped by a creek on this early Monday morning, saw this postcard painted on a wall in Springfield, and some cows out in the country at Enon.
I have some more photos from the adventures today on my Racing with the Wind page. It was a very good ride on an early morning. Expecting heat and humidity to be on the rise today, went out to beat that, and did so today.

St Mary's Lake and surrounding area (June 24, 2020)

Amazing adventure in St. Mary, Ohio. Visited the Grand Lake there, and grand it was. One of the biggest inland lakes I have seen (well, so far anyhow). Exploring around the lake visited some interesting places including St. Mary itself, Sidney, and Celina. Getting there from the house we (went with my wife Debbie in the Civic) went down 235 and via 29. Farms and fields. Watching the Great Blue Heron fish was a real plus. We also visited a historic area in St. Mary which included some cannon, and the site of the old Canal system. That is a replica canal boat below. It was a remarkable day in Ohio!

Fathers Day 2020 (June 21, 2020)

On this hot and humid Father's Day took a motorcycle ride on the Triumph to Riverscape. Was not the plan but it was where I turned up. I have some more photos on my Racing with the Wind blog page from the ride today. I took a few photos to put here, couple of the historical markers in front of the Engineers Club (which can be seen below), and the river. Glad to see today that the fountains are running and always fun to check those out. Being Sunday morning it was very quiet at the park but there were a few people there. Thanks for visiting my page and hope to see you back again soon.

Summer: Day 1 (June 20, 2020)

First day of Summer and got up early to get out before the heat builds up. It will feel like summer with temperatures in the 90's today and humidity to match. It was fun to be out through, as there were a number of motorcycles also out with the same idea. Went into Fairborn, that is where I got the photo of the C-17's directly below. I also stopped at Lefty's there for the first time for breakfast and a cup of coffee. I highly recommend this place, it was very good.
Rode down the road toward Enon and kept going not that its not an interesting town, it is, but just to do some exploring. Came across the "Pennsylvania House". Interesting place with a cool history. I have the historical marker and the house photographed. I have information also in another photo about US 40. Rode a good part of that yesterday, its a favorite road here for me.
At left is inside Lefty's (mentioned above) then below is a couple of photos of Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield. Very big and interesting with a neat Veterans section. They also have some monuments of sort about former wars, that is the top photo above.
The ride was a lot of fun, always nice to explore new things and see new sights. I also visited Wittenberg College. Very interesting old school dating to 1845. More photos can be seen on my Racing with the Wind page.

West Virginia and Maryland (November 12-15, 2024)

Sights during our travels in West Virginia, Maryland, and even a stop (at John and Annie Glenn's house in Ohio) over a four day trip to ...
