Summer's End (September 14, 2020)

Summer is winding down, noticed during the morning motorcycle ride much cooler temperatures and much lower humidity. Very nice to get out, as fall is my favorite time of the year to ride the motorcycle or to just get out in the car. Looking forward to seeing some fall color and to enjoy some of the cooler temperatures this season.

Saw some trees changing the other day but stopped and got this one. Hoping for a lot of color this year as last year we did not get so much. The official start of the season this year is September 22.

In addition to the hint of Fall, while out riding saw this C-17 from the nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force base also out for a cruise in the skies above me. Fun to watch these fly. Got this photo from my front yard, its a very cool airshow and really enjoy watching these planes zooming around the skies.

Airplanes and Beer (September 5, 2020)

Nice motorcycle ride on a Saturday morning. I went to explore a couple of new places. A big fan of craft beer and got a quick look at Mother Stewart's Brewing in Springfield. Not open, but went to see it for a future visit. I also rode to the Springfield Airport which I had also never seen. I am a big fan of aviation and enjoy visiting these places. Nice day to ride and looking forward to checking out a cold beer at Mother Stewart's in the future. I also have more photos at my Racing with the Wind blog page.

Waterfalls (August 31, 2020)

Nice drive on the last day of August to see the waterfalls in the area. Not a long drive to Ludlow Falls where we saw the view at left. Beautiful place and was able to find it thanks to my wife who had been there years before.

Likewise photo below is of the West Milton Cascades, which were a bit harder to find. In fact there were no signs for either waterfall. Found the Cascades thanks to Google Maps, and heard the sound of the falling water. I also got a photo of the historical sign at West Milton which was a stop on the Underground Railroad. This was a fun adventure to see these sights. Amazing what you can find in the immediate area here in Ohio.

Carriage Hill Farm (August 30, 2020)

My favorite Metropark in the Dayton area is hands down Carriage Hill Park in Huber Heights. Site of an old farm it is even during the time of the virus fun to explore the old and historic buildings (even though they are closed inside, but everyone is free to wander the grounds outside.

I also enjoy visiting the animals to be found there, and these are just a few. The donkeys and the horses usually enjoy having us pet them, which is really nice and its certainly nice to get upclose  with the critters there. These by the way are just a few. The park also has a lake and picnic areas as well as a guest house. There are even some trails in the area and it is a popular area for horse back riding. Love going to this park on two wheels or four and it is a favorite stop of mine year round.

Rising Sun Indiana Visit (August 24-25, 2020)

Have not been on a real trip for over six months, but we decided to visit this favorite place and that included a hotel room. Good going to Indiana as masks were required. Made some interesting visits there. Rising Sun at left, sunflowers there below. An old replica gas station in Aurora, Indiana is seen with a barge below that on the Ohio River. The Indian massacre memorial to the Revolutionary War event in 1781 is followed by the last photo taken in Lawrenceburg Indiana. We had a great time in the area and are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for visiting my page.

Carillon Historical Park, Dayton, Ohio (July 13, 2020)

Debbie and me visited the Carillon Historical Park, which is a favorite place of ours. It is also a remarkable place to visit and we have a great time. A wondertime time to visit is during the Christmas holiday when the park is all decorated.
A favorite thing to see is the Wright Flyer III which is considered a vast improvement over the first Wright Flyer which flew at Kitty Hawk, NC. This plane is one of the most complete of the Wright aircraft on display with the most original parts.
I have a number of items below with descriptions. These are just a few of what can be seen at the park.
Wright Test Engine

Sewing Machine used at Kitty Hawk to put fabric on the wings of the Wright Flyer.

Oldest building in Dayton, Ohio

Camera which took the first flight photo at Kitty Hawk, NC

Another visit to the National Museum of the United States Air Force (July 6, 2020)

The opportunity again arose, and once again visited the Air Force Museum. I have been on a few motorcycle rides also during this period, those you can explore on my "Racing with the Wind" page. Here you see the X-29 research aircraft to the left. Below that a Moon rock! Third photo is an F-117 Stealth fighter. Mig-15 below that, was flown to South Korea from the North during the Korean War. A Wright Flyer Model B below that and then a WW1 SE5a fighter. The blue plane is a 1930's era Martin B-10 and finally an autogyro at the bottom. As always had a fantastic time at the museum!!

West Virginia and Maryland (November 12-15, 2024)

Sights during our travels in West Virginia, Maryland, and even a stop (at John and Annie Glenn's house in Ohio) over a four day trip to ...
