Barnstorming Carnival (July 18, 2021)

Great time at this event at the Springfield Ohio airport. Got to fly in a 1928 Travel Air biplane. My first open cockpit (and for that matter first biplane) ride. It was fantastic. The plane can be seen directly below, as well as 3 photos from the flight. That is Springfield, Ohio in the fourth photo. They also had a food truck rally and in addition to the biplanes a number of other types of aircraft.

It was a free event (except for the cost of food and other items such as the shirts we got). My wife also was there and we enjoyed the airplanes. Like me, she has an aviation background and she was the one who found this event. It is the 7th Barnstorming Carnival, and we are already making plans to be at #8 next year.

Rising Sun Visit (July 11-15, 2021)

Nice visit to Rising Sun, which is a favorite place of ours. Weather was a bit iffy during much of the visit. Impacted the Car Show (seen in previous post) and also a few days of exploring the city. Still did have some dry times and got to wander the town. We also got out to Lawrenceburg and enjoyed seeing that city which has as does Rising Sun many historical sites. It is always a fun place to visit and has many friendly people there. Looking forward to a return in the near future.

Rising Sun Car Show (July 11, 2021)

We have spent the past few days in Rising Sun, Indiana. We really enjoy visits there and on Sunday just before our arrival, they held a car show. We have not been to one in well over a year, and it was great to see some of these old classics there. While the show had a lot more than these, these are a selection of some of my favorites. Weather had a big impact on the show due to off and on showers during the day. Loved seeing some of these old autos there. Some of them really brought back memories.

Dayton Air Show Practice (July 9, 2021)

Rode out to Vandalia, Ohio yesterday, where the Dayton Airport is, with my wife and we visited Hairless Hair Brewing. It is directly across from the airport and a great place to enjoy not only a very tasty beer, but also the air show practice.

The Thunderbirds were flying and enjoyed some really cool flying from those amazing professionals. They can be seen in the first and the last photo below.

In addition saw a US Navy FA-18 flying with a World War 2 F4U Corsair. You can see the two in the two photos below, and the FA-18 in the photos below that.

It was fun to watch this show, and enjoyed the visit. As those who visit this page know I am a huge fan of aviation, and enjoy watching them fly. Unlike the museum (which I also love) you get the sound and fury plus get to see some amazing flying.

Dayton Highlights, (Riverside) July 4, Part 3 (July 6, 2021)

Finally on Sunday July 4 visited the River park in downtown Dayton. For the first time this year saw the fountains running. It is a really beautiful thing to see, and in fact came back that same night with my wife to see it again, and to share the view with her.

I also made a walk (it was not far) to see the Day Air Ballpark which is the home of the Dayton Dragons baseball team. I have been to that just a few weeks ago. All in all it was a remarkable day in the city and I hope you have enjoyed this small look at just a few of the sights that Dayton has to show. There is much more to see and certainly will be looking again in the future. Thank you for visiting my page.

Dayton Highlights (Wright-Dunbar Center) July 4, Part 2 (July5, 2021)

First time visit to the very interesting (and free I might add) look at the work of the Wright brothers  (aviation, bicycles and printing), plus the life of their friend and noted author/poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar. As an added bonus the museum also has the Parachute Museum. I have photos from all three sights there. The glider is a replica but the items of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, the printing equipment (which is mostly Wright owned and used) and the items from the Parachute Museum are all authentic.

The Wrights did some printing in the museum very building, and their 4th bicycle shop is right next to this building. That will be for another time, that time being...tomorrow. Thank you for visiting.

Dayton Highlights (Oregon District) - July 4 visit, Part 1(July 4, 2021)

Very interesting Sunday, wandered around Dayton, Ohio on this Independence Day Sunday. First stop was the Oregon District which is the entertainment center of Dayton (one of them anyhow). Quiet on a Sunday but opens later in the day. It is famous as the place where  people got got killed by the nutbag shooter last year. Lots of old interesting buildings and some great places to eat and drink. Told some really good bands play there.

Enjoyed wandering around the town, and there is a lot of things to see and do. So many that I will be posting some more photos of the city here over the next few days. I hope you enjoy the look and thank you for visiting my page.

West Virginia and Maryland (November 12-15, 2024)

Sights during our travels in West Virginia, Maryland, and even a stop (at John and Annie Glenn's house in Ohio) over a four day trip to ...
